The builders positioned a specialized opening (the "roofbox") 2.4 metres above the main entrance. Because the passage rises 2 metres from entrance to chamber, only the dawn solstice sun at an exact angle of +1.8° can pierce the roofbox and strike the triple-spiral backstone.
